So For Us, It All Started Here…

If this video doesn’t inspire you toward Permaculture, nothing else could. What can I say? It’s phenomenal, amazing, and a testament to the rehabilitating magic that God has created in plants.

While we were still back in Washington and God was waking us up to Sustainability, Permaculture, Alternative Building, real Health & Nutrition… we ran into the Giants in these fields- Joel Salatin (biodynamic farmer), Andrew Morrison (sustainable builder), Sally Fallon (nutritionist). Foremost was iconic Permaculture guru Geoff Lawton. 7 years later I would finally get the chance to take his Permaculture Design Course and set the world of eco-systems straight in my head. Until then, we read and watched every alternative book and video we could get our hands on… and sought for land.

Then came the real estate crash of 2008. We were losing our home to foreclosure and at the same time, being highly motivated to put distance between ourselves and toxic family relationships in Seattle, we heard that there was land out East… Yes, we heard that the real pioneers were in fact, beginning to migrate in the opposite direction- no longer West (high priced and overcrowded… if you haven’t noticed…), but East.

Lured by a $20,000 price tag for 5 acres of beautiful farmland and the report that in rural America there were actually no building codes to speak of (meaning we could finally build our experimental alternative Straw Bale/ cob home without inhibitory regulations and requirements). We were soon to find out what rural really meant. But that’s a story for another time…

Back to the intelligence of Permaculture (as we fast forward through several years of chaos) and the scene finds me piling through the layers of Ecology and Purposeful Design, realizing why many organic/ sustainable/ biodynamic farmers have accidentally designed themselves into work overloads and burdens without end, lived out in desperate isolation while they know that the hope of the world really does rest on their success. And here, the seeds of hope, planted in the fields of disaster began germinating, growing and taking shape in my mind- Regeneration Nation… a Community with efficient design, answering the needs of Farmers and non-Farmers together- Food Security, Amenities for all, Recreation, a beautiful place to live, Eco-Education and a multiplication of all the above …

Join us in building Regeneration Nation!
